webct and the internet: course tools
WebCT is an integrated e-Learning environment available from any computer, anywhere with access to the Internet. This course will rely very heavily on WebCT as secondary mode of instruction. Students unfamiliar with WebCT can find helpful information through the CSLA's WebCT Student FAQs. You may also view a useful self-registration video, which is available on the elps blackboard page (scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the link for the self-registration video). WebCT Guidelines and Information (including grading rubric) are available here.
In addition to WebCT, my courses make liberal use of the internet for the dissemination of course material. For my courses, you need an active NIS account and fairly regular access to a computer so that you can download lectures notes, view course-related videos, and read e-mail messages. Most of the my lecture notes are available as MS Powerpoint presentations or as PDF files. You can access both Powerpoint slide shows and pdf files with free software "readers" (see below for more information).
Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer. PowerPoint Viewer 2003 lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions. This viewer also supports opening password-protected Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. You can view and print presentations, but you cannot edit them in the PowerPoint Viewer 2003. Click here to download.
Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader allows you to open and read PDF files. The PDF file format was created by Adobe Inc to enhance document exchange. Documents in PDF are independent from device and display resolution and can be read on any operating system (Windows, Macintosh, Linux). Download the free reader here.
