READ ME. There are a number of required and suggested online readings for this class. All readings can be accessed through the JFK web page. To find a particular database, go to the following page http://www.calstatela.edu/library/mudir1.htm • Look for the appropriate database on the left side of the screen. The readings for this class come from three databases: EBSCO Host, J-STOR and Project MUSE. When you click on the database link, you will be connected directly to that database or, if you are accessing the web page from your home, to a log on page. To access JFK Library databased from home, you must have an NIS account. If you need help accessing an article, consult with a reference librarian or student assistant in the library or e-mail me.

Japanese Media (newspapers, journals and other media sources)

Asahi Shimbun • Online, English-language edition of the major "morning" newspaper in Japan.

Dead Fukuzawa Society Journal • An on-line magazine devoted to timely and relevant coverage of issues concerning the U.S. - Japan relationship. The format is designed to encourage contributions from wide perspective, and the publishers endeavor to publish simultaneously in Japanese and English.

Japan Echo • The bimonthly journal Japan Echo features translations of essays, interviews, and discussions by noted commentators on topics of interest in Japan today. Along with current and past issues, this site offers an open forum for active online exchange on these topics.

Japan Times • Founded in 1897, this is the leading Japanese newspaper published in English. Includes search feature, which allows you to access articles from January 1999 to the present.

Keizai Koho Center • the KKC is affiliated with Keidanren (Japan Federation of Economic Organizations). Site contains Japan Economic Currents, a commentary on contemporary economic issues.

Kyodo News Service • Kyodo is a nonprofit cooperative organization run on an annual budget, and primarily made up of membership dues and revenues from nonmember subscribers.

Mainichi Daily News • Online, English-language edition of another national newspaper in Japan. This site includes the Japan Economic Update, which publishes translated articles from leading Japanese economic news journals (this page is not currently being update, but has links to older articles)

NewsOnJapan.com • Comprehensive daily news coverage on topics of business, economy, internet, politics, society, stock market, and technology. Also featuring a comprehensive directory of Japan websites and related shopping services

NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai) • Japan's national broadcasting station, this site contains general news and information on Japan

Nikkei Weekly • "Founded in 1876, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc, or Nikkei as it is more widely known, is the primary source of business information for top executives and decision-makers in Japan. Its flagship newspaper, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, is the world's largest-selling business daily, combining both incisive articles on economics, business, finance and politics with first-rate reporting on social affairs, cultural events and sports." Chosun Ilbo (English edition) • Online edition of major Korean vernacular newspaper

Korea Economic Daily • Established in August 1962, is the economic newspaper with the longest history in Korea. The company was first founded [Sports Daily] in January 1963 and was renamed into [The Economic Daily] in October 1964. The newspaper changed name once again to [Hyundai Economic Daily] in 1965, and was finally named [The Korea Economic Daily] in 1980, when the newspaper was taken over by Federation of Korean Industries' 203 member companies such as Hyundai, Samsung, LG, SK, and Hyosung. Since then, it enjoyed stellar growth with separate capital and management system, prospering into the nation's leading economic newspaper.

Korea Economic Institute of America • Site contains many downloadable documents and articles related to the Korean economy

Korea Focus • Korea Focus  is a bimonthly journal featuring articles and commentaries on Korean politics, economy, society, and culture selected from leading Korean newspapers, news magazines, and academic papers

Korea Herald • Leading English-language Korean newspaper

Korea Times • Leading English-language Korean newspaper. The parent company (Hanguk Ilbo) also has an online Los Angeles edition of the Korea Times

Yonhap World News Service • Yonhap News Agency is Korea's sole news wire service. The company was founded on December 19, 1980, through the merger
of Hapdong News Agency and Orient Press, bringing Korea's two news agencies under one roof. Yonhap supplies domestic and foreign news and information to
newspapers, broadcasters and other media subscribers and to businesses, institutions and individuals in Korea. As the sole news agency in the Republic of Korea, Yonhap maintains contracts, news exchange and cooperation agreements and other pacts with 47 foreign news agencies
