Check here periodically for additional readings, sites and pages related to our course (I will try to keep this page updated throughout the quarter) • Please e-mail me your suggestions.

REQUIRED READING FOR NOVEMBER 23 You can download the article, "Expect the Unexpected: A Religious Democracy in Iran" here (saved as a PDF file). This article is REQUIRED for class on Tuesday, November 23. The quiz will be mostly based on the content of this article.

[I posted information last time I taught this course; some links may be out-of-date] ADDITIONAL ONLINE SOURCES ON RATIONAL CHOICE • THIS is just a brief list of sources I put together using a quick search in Google (based on the simple search phrase: "Rational Choice"). For the last source, I added the word "poverty." I encourage you to find additional sources if you are still confused about the rational choice perspective--perhaps one account will "speak" to you more effectively than others. If you find a particularly good source, please let the rest of the class know through the discussion board.

http://uregina.ca/~gingrich/f1000.htm • This a fairly long, but useful introduction to Rational Choice written by a sociologist for his course on Contemporary Social Theory

http://www.umsl.edu/~rkeel/200/ratchoc.html • Another essay on Rational Choice by a sociologist (Robert Keel, for his class on the Sociology of Deviant Behavior). The author addresses the question, "Why do people engage in deviant and/or criminal acts?"

http://choo.fis.utoronto.ca/FIS/Courses/LIS2149/RatChoice.html • A very short "notes" page on key assumptions in Rational Choice

http://www.essaybank.co.uk/free_coursework/338.html • A useful introductory essay on Rational Choice

http://www.providence.edu/las/discussion.htm • A discussion about Rational Choice (see the bottom of the page for a concise description of Rational Choice Theory)
