INTRODUCTION
I have taught here since Fall 1972 and retired Sept. 2007 after 35 years. I still teach Embryology and Histology Winter Quarter on the FERP Program and will do so for 4 more years. I was awarded Professor Emeritus status after I retired.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
Research interests : Use of two pigment mutant fowl (Barred Plymouth Rock and White Leghorn chickens) as models for the human skin pigmentary disease, vitiligo (1986-present). The wild type Jungle Fowl serves as a control. Vitiligo is the localized loss of pigment cells in the skin yielding white spots. The exact cause is not known. Techniques used in the research include electron microscopy, organ culture, tissue culture, enzymology and molecular biology. Previous research on normal avian pigmentation (1968-1985), amphibian pigmentation (1973-1976), fish pigmentation (1972-1978, 2002), melanoma (1979-1980) and carrageenan connective tissue granulomas (1976-1981).
