Background: Dr. Ayati is a professor of Information Systems. He started his professional work as a field mechanical engineer working for Isfahan Steel Plant where he served as project manager of oxygen plants and associate superintendent of rolling mills. Meanwhile he spent a year in the then USSR for training as chief engineer for assembly of mechanical equipment. Subsequently, he was admitted to UCLA for graduate studies. He received an MS degree and a Ph.D. in 1980 in Engineering Systems with emphasis on Operations Management and Information Systems. During his Ph.D. program, he worked for the NASA "Future Aviation Fuels" project for four years while completing his dissertation entitled "A Dynamic Model of Air Transportation Industry."  After graduation, he joined the Systems Magnetic Company in Anaheim, California where he worked as a Senior Information Systems Analyst. He also taught graduate Operations Research at USC. He joined California State University, Los Angles in 1982. His teaching, consulting and research interests have been in the areas of  Database Design, Systems Analysis and Design, Management Information Systems, Enterprise Systems, Computer Architecture, Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems, and Visual Basic and .NET Programming.
