WEBSITE REVIEWS

This website is created as a project
of The Internet TESL Journal and contains a variety of activities submitted by ESL
teachers for students. Activities are arranged by three major groups:
1)
by category (grammar and vocabulary quizzes, and crossword puzzles)
and then by level of difficulty (easy, medium, and difficult);
2) by browser
requirements (HTML, JavaScript, and Flash) and then by category (grammar,
places, vocabulary, idioms); 3) and finally by language for bilingual
quizzes. It also has links for
teachers to write their own quizzes and well-maintained links for teachers and
students to other activity sites.
The site is easy
to navigate and has a wide variety of exercises. I find, however, that even beginning level students are
becoming more sophisticated in their desire for graphics and action.
There is little more interaction in most of the exercises then
“correct” or “incorrect, try again”.
Nevertheless, despite the limitations, I would recommend this website to both teachers and students. For teachers, it provides a chance to be creative and write your own quizzes based on whatever area is being introduced in the classroom. For the student, there is enough of a variety in choice and level to be appropriate to just about any learner. For both, the chance to access other, previewed websites is also a great plus.
