teaching philosophy

My name is Imelda Alvarez and my philosophy combines various methods of teaching. I think that there isn’t one teaching technique that we could say applies to every individual. I believe that the more techniques you use, the better. In my opinion there are two kinds of teachers, one who is a real teacher and the other who believes as being real. The only difference is that the real teacher is some one who is aware that students have different needs and tries to fulfill all of these needs by investigating what might work better with these students. Is someone who sees in every students the capacity of learning regardless of their culture of background. A real teachers never gives up and believes in every one of his/her students. On the other hand we have the teacher who claims to be a real teacher but forgets that students have special needs. This teacher is aware about these needs, but never does anything to full fill them. Knowing you are a real teachers is not everything, what makes you a real teachers is acting, not just believing.
Teaching is not just teaching. It is a commitment to all students. There are many factor that need to be taken into account when working in the teaching field. We need to understand that we live in a multicultural society and that our students are not always going to learn with the same teaching technique. We need to take into account that there are students who might not benefit from a particular technique, in this case, we as teachers need to come up with one that might function well for these students. Teachers definitely need to be opened minded and to go around and test different teaching techniques and from then on, pick the one or ones that are good for the students. I know teachers who really bore their students to death because simply the technique that they are using does not work for them. You lose students when they don’t understand what you are trying to do. Always keep in mind that if all students learned in the same way, there would not be any problems. Unfortunately, this is not the case and students should be our first priority. Learning to work with students that require different teaching techniques is not easy, but it is surely rewarding to see a big smile on their faces when you meet their learning needs.
