Am I Eligible To Participate In SoCalBSI?

Eligible students must meet the following requirements:

  • Current U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident (F-1 Visa students are Not eligible).

  • An undergraduate student with at least a sophomore standing or a student at a community college in process of transferring to a four year program.

  • Students are eligible up to their second year of graduate school.

Plus ONE of the two requirements below:

  • Students must be majoring in a molecular life science-related field and have completed one C++ or object-oriented programming course.

OR

  • Students must be majoring in a computer science-related field and have completed one molecular life science course.

How Long Is The SoCalBSI Program?

SoCalBSI is a rigorous 10 week program that begins in June and ends in August. The exact dates of each year will vary slightly.

Students must be currently be enrolled in courses to apply.

How Much Does It Cost To Participate?

SoCalBSI does not charge students to participate. Instead, SoCalBSI pays each student a stipend amount for completing the program.

Students who live in on-campus housing will have housing payments automatically deducted from their stipends. Campus housing is approximately $26 per night.

Is Campus Housing Available?

Campus housing will be available to students upon their request. Students need not stay in campus housing. The cost of campus housing will automatically be deducted from the student's stipend payment.

How Much Stipend Is Awarded To Students?

Each student will recieve stipend payments throughout the SoCalBSI program.
The stipend amount for the 2009 program are:

$6,000.00 - Undergraduate Students
$7,000.00 - Graduate Students
