After graduating from the Zinman
College at the Wingate Institute in 1973 (elementary & secondary
physical education teaching credentials), I served as a combat fitness
instructor (1974-76) and officer (1976-78) at the IDF's Combat Fitness
Center. My professional training in physical education includes a B.A.
degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport (1982), and M.S.
(1984), & Ph.D. degrees from SIU Carbondale (1989). Prior to joining
the physical education faculty at Cal State LA in the Fall of 1991 I taught
physical education at the Zinman College (1978-1981), at the
University of Southern California (1988-1991) and
Pepperdine University (Fall, 1989).
I was trained in sociology and psychology of physical education and sport and I hold gymnastics and track & field
coaching certificates. Over the past 15 years I have developed an interest in and taught computer
applications in kinesiology, history and philosophy of physical education
and sport, introduction to physical education, applied motor learning, physical fitness,
team handball, martial arts, and tennis.
I am the author of numerous web sites, two of which kinesiology majors may find usefull.
The "Kids First Soccer" site is dedicated to a child
centered approach to the organization and administration of youth sports, and the
"Computer Terms" site is a
resource to novice computer users. Organized in alphabetical order, the site provides many of the
most commonly used computer and information technology terms.
At Cal State LA I serve as (1) member of the Advisory Committee for the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning,
and (2) member of the Faculty Development Partnership Program. My service
on university, school, and department committees includes the Institutional
Review Board--Human Subjects (1997-2000), Technology Roundtable, and the departmental
Search, Faculty and Student Affairs, and Tenure and Promotion Committees.
Outside the University I hold positions, such as, member of the editorial board of Kineziology: International Scientific Journal of Applied
Kinesiology. Physical Education Section Editor (1995-2004), and Member of the Executive Editorial Board of the
multiple award winning Sports Media web site (http://www.sports-media.org) (2002-04) as well as, service as expert
on the "Ask The Expert" panel at Sports Media (sports-media.org) website (2002-04). Starting during the summer of 2004,
I have resumed the role of College of HHS Web Administrator
