In the preface to his text (used in KIN 385) Coakley (2007, p. x) explains the threefold purpose of the ninth edition of the Sports in Sciety: Issues and Controversies text. "First it is designed to show students the ways that sociology can be used to study sports in society. Second, it is written to evoke critical questions from students as they think about sports in their lives and the world around them. Third, it is organized to facilitate the use of research, theory, and everyday experiences to learn about sports in society."

Feel free to stop by my office (PE 230) to introduce yourself or I'll see you in class, lab, or at the Cal State LA walkways and welcome to another exciting quarter at Cal State LA.
