Analysis of Nutritional Status Project
Five-Day Food Intake Analysis1 Instructions: |
| 1A | Gather accurate personal information (height, weight, body compositon, fitness level). | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Light--Sitting or standing (12 hours a day); walking, and other light activity (up to 3 hours a day); brisk walk, and/or recreational sports (one hour a day); and eight hours of sleep.
| 2B
| Moderate--Sitting or standing (8 hours a day); walking and other light activity (up to 6 hours a day); brisk walk and/or recreational sports (2-3 hours a day), and 7-8 hours of sleep per day.

| Heavy--Full time athlete, miner, steel worker, forestry worker etc...

| Record all food consumed during at least 3 or 4 representative week days and 1 or 2 representative weekend days (five days total) . Utilizing the tables of "Nutritional Content of Common Foods" in Fahey, Insel, & Roth (1997). Appendix B, pp. A-11 to A-25, match or find the closest equivalent to the actual food item you consumed. Use the provided forms in your text (Fahey et al. pp.209-216). I fyou plan to use computer software for your analysis use the same forms to record food entries (e.g., apple juice, ½ c; bread 2 slices; ground meat 6 oz etc.)

| Based on your computerized food intake analysis, provide suggestions to improve the quality of your diet. How could you increase the nutrient content in your diet and at the same time decrease its caloric content (in other words increase food density)?

| It is essential that you maintain your normal dietary habits during your baseline 5-day data collection. DO NOTstart a dietary intervention during the data collection period.

| Use your most representative days as your baseline. Days that are unusual due to under- or over-food consumption should be left out of this analysis.

| Discuss your findings in terms of your "Food Group Exchange" compliance and Macro- and Micronutrient consumption
