I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This class emphasizes the development of beginning soccer skills, knowledge of game rules, indoor soccer team tactics, and systems of play. It is designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer necessary to move the student towards more advanced levels of play.

II. PREREQUISITES: None.
III. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of the course students will:

  • develop basic soccer skills
  • learn the fundamentals of indoor soccer game strategies
  • demonstrate knowledge of the rules and strategies of soccer
  • demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental principles of physical fitness and wellness
  • become aware of the value of soccer for aiding in maintenance of one's physical fitness goals as a lifetime physical activity
  • appreciate and promote the value of sportsmanship and fair play in soccer

C. COURSE FORMAT AND REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS:

Equipment and Dress Requirements

  • Shorts or sweats
  • non-marking athletic shoe
  • shin guards
  • removal of sharp objects (watches, jewelry, Flea collars, pierced earring posts, etc.)
V. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:
  • Attendance, punctuality, and active participation in indoor soccer class sessions is expected. Students are responsible for additional reading materials whether present or not during actual weight room sessions. Since each indoor soccer session is evaluated individually missed sessions will be deducted from the total course participation grade.
VI. ASSIGNMENTS:
  • Televised Soccer Game Analysis
  • Summary paper discussing current fitness and nutritional status, and future plans for life-time fitness and weight control.
