The Toltec symbolism of the white plants and animals had helped the Aztecs find their sacred spot, but henceforward it was their own symbolism, the eagle on the cactus, that would be elevated to the highest status. Not only did this symbol represent the heart of Copil who was defeated by his uncle Huitzilopochtl, but also signified the triumph of the sun over its enemies. The eagle is thus a solar symbol, while Huitzilopochtl, as we have seen, is the sun itself. (The end of Story 1)
