According to the chronicles, when the Aztec priest and elders found these signs they wept for joy and then spoke to their people. That night the god spoke again to the priests, and told them that other signs were yet to be found. The next day the Aztecs, having heard the word of god, returned to the place where they had found the initial signs. Eventually they discovered the eagle upon the cactus.
