Here again myth is fused with historical fact. History relates that the Aztecs searched for a place to settle and found the swampy island controlled by Tezozomoc; he allowed them to live there in exchange for tribute and for mercenary labors in his wars against other chiefdoms. Myth, however, relates that this was the place chosen by their God Huitzilopochtl, and that here they would discover the signs promised by him. (Story 1 continues, click to next page)
