In one of the corridors of the cloister, we find a very meaningful mural that is the key to understanding the underlying symbolism and function of the monastery. This is a depiction inblack and white of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. She is the Virgin of the Apocolypse and is surrounded by the symbols of her attributes: the spotless mirror, the tree or palm, the lilly, the sun, the moon, the stars, the rose bush. We find a beautiful metaphor that equates the Virgin Mary as mother of God with the City of God. She is the embodiment of the City of God. In the Last Judgment Christ and Mary will come to establish the Eternal Celestial Jerusalem and defeat the Evil.
