Today this is located in the town plaza of Huejotzingo.
In the main square of the town, there is a bigger sarmentose stone cross that in my opinion could be the one that originally stood in the center of the atrium. This beautiful cross shows a crown of thorns in the crossing and the three wounds of Christ. The cross stands on a base that has an inscription dating 1603 that is probably the date on which the cross was moved to this location to serve as a symbol of protection for the town.
This kind of sarmentose crosses could suggest to the Indians a resemblance to the Chichihuanauco, that was the heaven where the dead children went. There were trees with breasts from which the children could be sucking milk.
