| In the interior of the chapel, there is a massive baptismal font, carved with acanthus leaves and the omnipresent Franciscan knotted cord. This fortress church with a look of severity, has a Renaissance portal with transitional elements like the Gothic rose window and plasteresque medallions, carved with tequitqui techniques. Evoking its role as a replica of the great temple of Jerusalem, we find apocalyptic inscriptions in the doorways, like: "This door will be open to those sinners who repent" and "I am the doorway of the Lord; whoever enters by me shall be saved." These messages recall the millenarian thought of the Franciscans who were into the idea of fighting the final battle of conversion of infidels prior to the Last Judgment. |
