Plan of the Convent of Saint Augustin of Acolman has a long, two-story rough-faced stone structure to the south of the convento, with five arches indicating the porteria. On the second floor, sandwiched between the church and the convento, is a deeply shadowed opening with an alfiz frame. This is the sanctury of the opened-air church. From the sanctuary to the cross at the west end of the atrio the ground slopes gently upward; a friar saying Mass or preaching would have been easily seen or heard.
