| The fort is built of coral rock surrounded by a moat; a ramp gives access to five bastions and a number of large rooms. Set with a slightly inward slope, outer walls are a good two meters thick at the base and one meter thick at the top. The rounded cornice indicates the level of the flat roof behind the parapet. A watchtower provides an unobstructed view of both sides. Although the fort is unquestionaly utilitarian, the curved molding is distinctive. The proportions of the cylindric cupola stand in graceful contrast to the unremitting forcefulness of the battered wall. |
