| The Tlaxcalan Lienzo (Manuscript) is a document, which contains an historical narrative of events which took place during the 16th century. The illustrations were hand-colored in a very naturalistic style. The scene shown above that belongs to the University of Texas, presents an event of the arrival of the Spaniards in Tlaxcala and the participation of the Tlaxcalans as allies in the Spanish conquest of Mexico City and other places. Cortes is shown sitting on a throne (chair) accompanied by his personal court of Spanish officials conversing with the Four Lords of Tlaxcala and Malinche (bottom left of illustration) serving as interpreter. |
