The illustration of the manuscript shown in this page is the first page of the Fejervary-Mayer Codex, which depicts the 260-day calendar tonalamatl oriented to the four directions of the Universe with the associate birds and trees. The central Mexican god Xiuhtecuhtli, stands in the center of the scene as a warrior backed by four streams of blood. This illustration is a Cosmogram or Map of the Universe showing the characteristic Mesoamerican Quincunx array.
