Zurnarraga was the most influential religious figure in the early history of Colonial Mexico. He was the first Bishop and Archbishop of New Spain. Zumarraga left incredible accomplishments and imprints in the areas of church organization, education, and the printing press and especially in Indian affairs. As the first bishop-elected, Zumarraga was given the title of 'Protector of the Indians' by Emperor Charles V,
