In the state of Jalisco there is a town called Atotonilquillo, about 48 kilometers from Guadalajara. One day there was a news report that a luminous image of the Virgin Mary was reflected on a wall of the Church. Immediately many people, some with curiosity, others with faith, and still others with skepticism went to find out what was going on there. I went as well, getting up very early in the morning because the "appearance" would take place during the 7 a.m. mass. What actually happened was that a sun beam passed through a glass window to create a clear image of the Virgin Mary and Child Jesus. It took about 20 minutes for the sharp and complete image to pass. The priest, who was very prudent, noted that one should not consider this a miracle, but a possible sign from God; a message to remind us of his presence. The celebration of the mass was timed so as to allow the image to appear during communion, eliciting much singing and joyful prayers to create a very emotional and animated atmosphere.
