The jambs of the portal are decorated with stylized flowers, probably roses with full open petals. The depressed arch has entwined floral reliefs and in the center a complex monogram of Christ (IHS). Above the monogram is a niche with a primitive statue of St. Vincent Ferrer, the patron of the monastery, who was a famous 15th century Dominican preacher involved in the evangelization of the Moors and Jews in southern Spain. The legendary deeds of this religious personage in the wars of the Reconquista were a tremendous inspiration for the Dominican missionaries in the New World.
