| At Tomb 7 the Mixtecs laid the remains of one of their kings and the bodies of his slaughtered servants, sometime in the mid-fourteenth century. Accompanying the ruler were magnificent objects of gold, cast in the lost-wax process, and silver; turquoise mosaics; necklaces of rock crystal, amber, jet, and coral; thousands of pearls, one as big as a pigeon's egg; and sections of jaguar bone carved with historical and mythological scenes. |
