Xochipilli, whose name means "Flower Prince" is closely identified with Macuilxochitl, 5 Flower, one of the Ahuiteteo, or gods of excess. Sahagun attributes to Xochipilli the meting out of hemorrhoids, venereal disease and boils to those who violate times of fasting with sexual intercourse, but he is also a god of positive and creative energies, and as such is a patron of flowers, dancing, feasting, painting, and game-playing. Because of his generative powers, he is also closely linked to Cinteotl, the young maize god. Xochipilli was feted early in the growing season during Tecuilhuitontli, when his impersonator was sacrificed.
