In 1978, a massive representation of Coyolxauhqui was discovered at the base of the Huitzilopochtli side of Templo Mayor in Tenochititlan. As in the cited Aztec text, she is depicted with her head and limbs severed from her torso, as if tumbling down the hill of Coatepec. At least two other Coyoxauhqui monuments were found at Templo Major. The stucco remains of an earlier nude and dismembered Coyolxauhqui lay directly under the stone sculpture. In addition to this stucco sculpture, fragments of another stone Coyolxauhqui disk were also discovered.
