From Historia Tolteca-Chichimeca. 1550.
Chicomoztoc, which means literally 'seven caves," was the place of origin and the diviner's name for the mouth or the womb. Perhaps this explains why the traditions dealing with the migrations of so many tribes of Mesoamerica say that these tribes came from Chicomoztoc, that is, from the womb. The Mexica believed that they came from Aztlan (place of whiteness or of the seven herons), and island in a lake, or they came from Chicomoztoc (seven caves) according to other traditions. Dressed in animal skins, the Chichimec tribes left the caves of origin on migration (indicated by footprints).
