| Each of the stelae is carved on all four sides with 16 glyphs that together constitute a set. Each stela has a human form with some kind of face on the front, and feet on all the other sides. The reliefs have been interpreted as depicting three deities (Tlaloc, the Sun God, and his wife, a fertility and moon goddess) and deal with major events in the agricultural cycle. For scholars like Roman Pina Chan and myself the stelae depict Quetzalcoatl in his diverse aspects. |
