Xochicalco's importance lies in its geographical and chronological focus, both important for the reconstruction of this rather unsettled period. Also, the carved stone monuments here provide the largest corpus of inscriptions for this period in central Mexico. The main group of public buildings completely modified this fortified hill. The most imposing structure is the Feathered-Serpent Pyramid supporting remains of a second story and covered with a wonderful corpus of carved human figures, hieroglyphs, and feathered serpents.
