| Forty kilometers west of the modern town of Cuernavaca is a major fortified site called Xochicalco, "Place of the House of Flowers." Xochicalco is located on a steep hillside, with water supplied by springs, lakes, and rivers. This was a key highland site for the Epi-Classic period (AD 700-900). | ||
