| It seems likely that Putun Maya groups penetrated westward as far as the Valley of Puebla, perhaps to secure trade networks during a period of disorganization between the fall of Teotihuacan and the raise of Tula. At Cacaxtla, Maya, Monte Alban, Veracruz and Teotihuacan features are clearly visible. At roughly the same time that artists were at work on Bonampak, Maya painters also worked at Cacaxtla, a hilltop acropolis hundreds of miles north of the Maya region. |
