"Creators of great Mayan civilizations that began 3000 years ago, still live in the face of this woman, one of the remaining 280 Lacandons of Chiapas". May be considered as living reliefs, so much do they resemble pre-Hispanic Mayan stelae figures. The Lacandon have lived in the forest for centuries and have evolved production systems and ways of life that maintain the integrity of the natural environment. At one time they hunted and farmed in an unbroken, high canopied forest.
