The plate holding bloodied paper rests on the ground in front of Lady Balam Ix. The father of the new born sits across from Lady Balam Ix on a bundle of leaf like objects, imagery seen only in this scene. Bird Jaguar wears a cloth kilt with a shield mounted on the rear of a wide belt. He is bedecked with ornate earplugs, nosepieces, a bar pectoral and jade cylinder cuffs on wrists, knees and ankles. The scene suggests that he, too, is about to let blood, and the bone awl is handily placed for him to pierce his penis.
