| Although Shield Jaguar is named as the protagonist, he is not pictured in the scene. There is a clue why he is missing. The text is written in mirror image, as if it should be read from the other side of the stone; we believe this mirroring to be an ingenious device to signal that this activity takes place inside an architectural space. The kneeling woman, Lady Xoc, experiences the vision alone; Shield Jaguar has, perhaps, remained outside for this portion of the accession ritual. | ||
