| The center of the world could be grand both in scale and execution, or like the navel of a human being, it could be a faint, vestigial marker of the remains of the umbilicus cord that was once connected to an original source of creation and substance. According to the present Lacandons, this carved stone with the shape of a broken stick was the umbilical cord that linked the sky with the earth and was cut by the Spaniards during the Conquest. | ||
