| It was during the reign of Shield Jaguar II and that of his son, Bird Jaguar III, that Yaxchilan reached the peak of its power and prestige. The low relief on monuments at Yaxchilan was a cultural choice. It allowed a permanent commemoration of lineage details and of rituals within the living ritual arena. | ||
