Chan Bahlum is the next ruler after the great Pakal, who is his father. Chan Bahlum can be identified by the extra toe on one of his feet, a deformity shown on his adult portraits. He is depicted as divine, in this case as the living incarnation of Bolon Tza'cab (God K), the patron of rulers. The tomb of Chan Bahlum had not been found, but one good possibility for its location would be beneath the northern Temple of the Cross. The finding of this tomb has been elusive to archaeological excavations, including the recent Proyecto de las Cruces that was exploring the Group of the Cross for the last three years.
