The carved tablet of the Temple of the Cross is within the pib na, a room within a room, the "underworld house" within the "sacred mountain". This panel depicts the cross-shaped tree of life and the two headed serpent surmounted by the celestial bird flanked by Chan Bahlum at his accession, and witnessed by his dead father, Pakal.
