| The scene on Pakal's sacrophagus lid has a very clear association, for like the sun, Pakal will master the forces of Xibalba and be reborn as a deity, just as the sun in reborn each day at sunrise. The pathway of their descent is marked by the world tree, shown sprouting from behind Pakal.
