The North Acropolis, a huge complex of temple buildings, closes off the north side of the Great Plaza. Stelae and altars set before the temples and along the north edge of the plaza record the exploits of Tikal's great rulers. Many of Ah-Cacaw's predecessors were entombed within the temple platforms.
