| In the temple city of Tikal assembled worshippers watch offering of copal incense. The Great Plaza is dominated by Temple I of Ah Kakaw (right) and Temple II so-called of the Masks (extreme left). The Plaza, flanked by lesser shrines and carved and plain stone time markers, was paved. Massive temple buildings were made of lime concrete faced with cut limestone blocks, and covered with dazzling white coats of plaster. With the imagination of an artist and the precision of a scientist, the reconstruction artist has captured the magnifícent Tikal síte as their builders saw the scenes more than a thousand years ago. |
