God E is identified as the maize god. God E is extremely common in the iconography of Post-Classic Yucatan, appearing in sculpture and painting. God E was a god of life and fertility and associated with agriculture (especially maize). He is always represented as a youth, sometimes with an ear of corn as his headdress. Like the maize he typified, he had many enemies, and his destiny was controlled by the gods of rain, wind, drought, famine, and death. He was benevolent, representing life, prosperity, and abundance.
