The Main Plaza, an artificially leveled rectangular area about 300 by 200 meters oriented north-south, formed the heart of the city and probably functioned as a marketplace and meeting area. Temples, palaces, an I-shaped ball court, and other structures delimit both sides of the plaza, and four temple platforms are built over bedrock outcrops in the center.
