Chalcatzingo is the most important Olmec site in the highlands and lies in the Amatzinac Valley of eastern Morelos. The ceremonial center of Chalcatzingo became a center of commercial and cultural exchange between distance places like La Venta and other sites on the Gulf Coast, with Tlatilco in the Central Altiplano and some other Olmec sites located in the mountains and sites on the Pacific Coast like Teopantecuanitlan, Oxtotitlan, and Juxtlahuaca in the State of Guerrero, and San Jose Mogote in the State of Oaxaca.
